Skills Development Scotland (SDS) is offering two, 2-year fixed-term Modern Apprenticeships SCQF level 6 in IT Support as part of our Young Talent Programme.

About the Role:

This role is designed to support SDS's ambitions to increase the uptake of Modern Apprenticeships, especially among young people from underrepresented groups such as ethnic minorities and individuals with disabilities.

Working within the EIS Shared Service, you will develop practical skills, theoretical knowledge and experience whilst contributing to support activity across our EIS Operations Support areas, including Service Desk, 2nd Line Support Team, 3rd Line Support Team, Cloud and Admin team whilst working towards the learning objectives of the SCQF Level 6 qualification.

A Shared Service is a centralised IT department that provides IT support and services to multiple business units within an organisation. It's essentially a model where a dedicated unit, including people, processes, and technology, is structured to deliver IT functions to different parts of the enterprise.

SDS embraces agile working, therefore, location is flexible. However, there will be a requirement for regular travel to Paisley / Glasgow where the team is based for training, mentoring and team collaboration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • With support, you will be able to handle customer contacts through several channels including phone and online portal requests. You will then progress to supporting more in-depth technical investigation of customer issues.
  • You will also get the opportunity to be involved in the delivery of support for Microsoft Services including O365, Azure and Active Directory. You will also build knowledge to respond to requests for new user setup, leavers, folder permissions and system access requests.

About You:

We are looking for two motivated candidates who are passionate about IT and technology and enjoy working with others and supporting customers. You should have good interpersonal skills, a creative approach to problem-solving, and be confident in sharing your ideas. You should have a good level of IT skills, ideally including working with Microsoft programmes and using the web.

Most importantly, you must be willing to learn, develop your skills, and have the drive and determination necessary to successfully complete your Modern Apprenticeship.

Eligibility:

To be eligible for this role, you must be aged 24 or younger on 8 September 2025, in line with the Scottish Government’s initiative on youth employment. However, SDS will be flexible on age criteria for applicants who identify as care experienced or disabled in which case candidates must be 29 or younger on 8 September 2025.
