Our commitment to you
SDS has designed a comprehensive bespoke development plan for our TCAs that combines both academic and on the job learning. The Postgraduate academic study will be provided by Edinburgh Napier University[1] commencing September 2025 and this study will be part time via distance learning over 2 years. To enable you to undertake this study you will receive one day paid study leave per week, this is over and above the personal study expected of a course at this level. Subject to satisfactory completion of the qualification, completion of your SDS training plan for PGDip QCD learners, and satisfactory performance, you will progress to the position of Careers Adviser.
You can check out the qualification to understand a bit more about what is involved.
As part of your training plan there is structured pay progression through your traineeship as you reach and achieve set milestones. These milestones are in line with how you progress through the PGDip QCD qualification.
As you work with us, you will also gain supported firsthand experience of engaging with and supporting our customers as we enable them to identify, develop and use their career management skills. This is in line with the Professional Body’s ethical and national occupational standards expectation.
Ar gealltanas dhutsa
Tha SDS air plana leasachaidh farsaing a dhealbhadh a dh’aon ghnothaich do ar TCAan a tha a’ cothlamadh an dà chuid ionnsachadh acadaimigeach agus obrach. Bidh an cùrsa acadaimigeach Iar-Cheumnach air a sholarachadh le Oilthigh Napier Dùn Èideann [2] a’ tòiseachadh san t-Sultain 2025 agus a’ ruith pàirt-ùine ag ionnsachadh air astar thar dà bhliadhna. Gus do chomasachadh air an ionnsachadh seo a ghabhail os làimh, gheibh thu cead aon latha ionnsachaidh pàighte gach seachdain, tha seo a bharrachd air an ionnsachadh pearsanta a thathar a’ sùileachadh le cìùrsa aig an ìre seo. An crochadh air crìochnachadh freagarrach a chur air an teisteanas, crìoch air plana trèanaidh SDS do luchd-ionnsachaidh PGDip QCD, agus coileanadh freagarrach, thèid thu air adhart gu dreuchd Comhairliche Dhreuchdan.
Mar phàirt ded phlana trèanaidh, tha adhartas structaraichte ann am pàigheadh trod ùine trèanaidh mar a bhios tu a’ ruighinn agus a’ coileanadh chlachan-mìle sònraichte. Tha na clachan-mìle sin ann an co-rèir ri mar a nì thu adhartas tro theisteanas PGDip QCD.
Mar a bhios tu ag obair còmhla rinn, gheibh thu cuideachd eòlas ùr le taic de bhith a’ conaltradh agus a’ cur taic ris na custamairean againn, fhad ’s a tha sinn ga dhèanamh comasach dhaibh an sgilean stiùiridh dreuchdail a chomharrachadh, a leasachadh agus a chleachdadh. Tha seo ann an co-rèir ri dùil inbhean obrach nàiseanta is eiticeil Bhuidhnean Proifeiseanta.
About You
Ideally you will be educated to degree level/SCQF level 9, but we would also invite applications from candidates with an HND SCQF 8 who have considerable work experience in an employability, education, and/or public service role. To be successful in the role, you must be fully committed to undertake study at post graduate level while performing the duties of a Trainee Careers Adviser.
For this role we also require you to have Gaelic speaking skills. SDS have a Gaelic Language Plan and we are committed to increasing the number of roles where Gaelic is deemed as an essential skill, particularly in areas where Gaelic is spoken.
With a genuine desire to work in this person-centred profession and geographical area, experience in employability, education and /or public service would be beneficial. The role will involve engaging with customers of all ages, in schools, in SDS premises or community environments, so strong interpersonal skills are essential.
As part of a geographically dispersed team, the Careers Adviser role will be well suited to someone who is able to work well as part of a team and who can work well independently with self-direction in complex work environments.
SDS takes its duty of safeguarding children and vulnerable adults very seriously.
Due to the type of work and customer contact employees in Career Information, Advice and Guidance (CIAG) have with young people and their personal data, successful applicants will be subject to a Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) check by Disclosure Scotland. PVG is a government regulated scheme which undertakes a criminal record check to ensure that any potential employee is suitable to work with young people or have access to their personal data. We will explain more about this scheme and the process if you are successful following the selection process.
We’d love for you to join us and make an impact you can be proud of!
Mud Dheidhinn
Bu chòir gum bi thu air d’ oideachadh gu ìre 9 de ceum/SCQF, ach chuireadh sinn fàilte cuideachd air iarrtasan bho thagraichean le HND SCQF 8 aig a bheil eòlas math obrach ann an dreuchd fastaidheachd, foghlam, agus/no seirbheis poblach. Gu bhith soirbheachail nad dhreuchd, feumaidh tu a bhith làn dealasach mu ionnsachadh a ghabhail os làimh aig ìre iar-cheum fhad ’s a tha thu a’ coileanadh dhleastanasan Comhairliche Dhreuchdan fo Thrèanadh.
Airson na dreuchd seo, tha feum agad cuideachd air sgilean labhairt Gàidhlig. Tha Plana Gàidhlig aig SDS agus tha sinn dealasach a thaobh na h-àireimh de dhreuchdan sa bheil Gàidhlig air a meas riatanach, a mheudachadh gu h-àraid ann an sgìrean far a bheil a’ Ghàidhlig ga labhairt.
Le fìor mhiann a bhith ag obair anns an dreuchd phroifeiseanta seo cuimsichte air daoine agus san sgìre chruinn-eòlasach, bhiodh eòlas ann am fastaidheachd, foghlam agus/no seirbheis poblach buannachdail. Bidh an dreuchd ag iarraidh conaltradh le custamairean de gach aois, ann an sgoiltean, togalaichean SDS no àrainneachdan coimhearsnachd, mar sin tha sgilean làidir eadar-phearsanta a dhìth.
Mar phàirt de sgioba sgapte gu cruinn-eòlasach, bidh dleastanas a’ Chomhairliche Dhreuchdan freagarrach do chuideigin a tha comasach air obair gu math mar phàirt de sgioba agus cuideachd as urrainn obrachadh gu neo-eisimeileach le fèin-stiùireadh ann an àrainneachdan obrach a tha toinnte.
Tha SDS a’ gabhail gu trom-chuiseach ri a dhleastanas a thaobh sàbhailteachd chloinne agus inbhich so-leònte. Mar thoradh air an t-seòrsa obrach agus an ceangal ri custamairean, a tha aig cosnaichean Fiosrachadh Dhreuchdan, Comhairle is Stiùireadh (CIAG) le daoine òga agus an dàta pearsanta, bidh tagraicheann soirbheachail fosgailte do sgrùdadh Dìon Bhuidhnean So-leònte (PVG) le Disclosure Scotland. Is e sgeama bhon riaghaltas a th’ ann am PVG, a bhios a’ gabhail sgrùdadh eucoir os làimh gus dèanamh cinnteach gu bheil cosnaiche sam bith san amharc freagarrach airson obair le daoine òga no le cothrom air an dàta pearsanta. Mìnichidh sinn barrachd mun sgeama seo agus am pròiseas ma tha thu soirbheachail às dèidh a’ phròisieis taghaidh.
B’ fhìor thoigh leinn thu a bhith còmhla rinn agus a’ toirt buaidh às am bi thu moiteil!
